For instance, the Russian Emperor Aleksandr the First and the wife of Napoleon Maria Luisa came to the city of Bardejov for taking curative treatment by alkaline-salt springs water.
Sliač was considered the most popular spa in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The unique curative water containing sulphur-hydrogen and carbonic acid gushes in Dudince while another spa Lučky is one of the oldest spas in Europe.
Slovakia is well known in Europe by its mountains, valleys, crystal clear air and salubrious springs, ice-covered caves and geysers, comfortable hotels and cozy inns.
Slovakia may provide all conveniences and favorable conditions for summer and winter holidays, the country stands out by its unique cultural and historic monuments, impressive fortresses, castles and estates, unforgettable folk architecture, art and folklore.
This country is a heaven for skiing since it provides excellent conditions for recreation and sporting-developed infrastructure, perfect technical characteristics of the spas and quite reasonable prices. The principal venues for skiing in Slovakia are: High and Low Tatry.
In High Tatry: Štrbské Pleso, Smokovec, Tatranská Lomnica.
In Low Tatry: Jasná and Talé.
In the location of the mountains Malá (Small) and Velké (Big) Tatra the most famous health resourts are Vratná and Donovalý.
Low Tatry are covered by the massives of the forests and topped by the alpine meadows while High Tatry are quite rocky, so far the snow covers the Low Tatry mountains longer time then High Tatry. In the mountains you may combineskiing with recreation in the of thermal facilities: Aqua City (Poprad), Tatralandia (Liptovský Mikulaš) and make the sightseeing tours over the ancient cities: Košice, Baredějov, Kežmarok, Levoča, Banská-Bistrica, Banská Stjavnica.
Slovak menu is the asset for the gourmets. It is a must to try such traditional meals such as “pork shoulder, galushki (dumpling made from flower and sheep–cheese and cottage cheese), smoked sheep cheese.
Don’t miss a chance to taste borovichka (home-made vodka from juniper), slyvovica (plumps home–made vodka) and the well-renowned Slovak beer “Šariš”.
Slovakia is famous for its scenic and impressive places.
